Question #1:

answer about thermodynamics?

A truck has a thermal efficiency of 20%. In the average, it consumes fuel at a rate of 1 liter per 0.60 kilometer and emits 2.7 kg carbon per liter of fuel burned. If the efficiency of the truck is improved to 30%, how much carbon will it emit per kilometer in the average?

Question #2:

what's more environmentally friendly diesel, natural gas, electric, propane, bio-fuel, or cooking oil for auto?

I want to build my own Hummer H1 and would love to make it environmentally friendly. Looking for highest efficiency, lowest cost to run, and high mileage.

Question #3:

hey ! ... i hve decided to buy a sedan (2nd hand) around this year's end ....for this i hve shortlisted two cars..
corolla and optra .... i wanna knw which car is better in terms of performance ,fuel efficiency and maintenance ... specially i wanna knw which has low maintenance cost .....in delhi , india.....
thanks.......

Question #4:

Scooter Modifications?

I want to modify my 90cc petrol motorbike just to improve the efficiency and possibly the range that it can go. I'm not too concerned about the performance.
Here's the mod list that I've thought up:

Free flowing exhaust with resonated piping, grounding kit,new spark plug with a new wire and intake with a panel filter.

Maintenence: Seafoam engine treatment, High grade oil with new oil filter and 95 octane fuel.

I am on a budget so no crazy expensive stuf.

Do you think that this a good list?

Question #5:

Should acceleration and horsepower be the only criteria I look for in a new car?

My parents are buying me a new car that is $10000 or less. I'm really thinking about the Ford Mustang because it has both fast acceleration and high horsepower. Does anyone else have any suggestion about which vehicle I should get? Fuel efficiency is preferable as well. I want a powerful car because it will enhance my self image. Personally I think the car says alot about the person and hence if i get a powerful car, that will make me a powerful person. That's why acceleration and horsepower is a must. I don't really care about safety features. I think safety depends on the driver, and I am a safe driver, so there's no point in getting a car with useless safety features. I mean even drivers driving safe vehicles can get into an accident if theyre not careful.

Question #6:

Planning to buy a Used car.?

My options are clear; I will only choose from the following make:
1. European - Volkswagen(not older than 2006), Volvo , Audi, BMW.
2. Japanese - Infiniti, Lexus, Acura

Prefer European but the following concerns:
1. Maintenance cost
2. Fuel efficiency (not a prime concern)

All I have is $15,000 max.

Will I able to realize my dream?

Please suggest:
1. Make
2. Year
3. Optimal Mileage
4. Dealer near Dallas (if possible)

Thanks in Advance Folks,
Jo.

Question #7:

Algebra Help!!!!!!!!!?

A Car travels 36miles per gallon in highway driving and 24 miles per gallon in city driving. If you drive the car equal distances on the highway and the city, how many miles per gallon can you expect to average? (Hint: the average fuel efficiency for all the driving is the total distance traveled divided by the total smout of gasoline used.)

Question #8:

When i start my car in the morning,it runs perfectly. However after 5 min i get "check engine light".?

then, when i depress clutch to change gear, the engine dies, or stays around 0.2k to 1k rpm.Weirdly, after continuing driving for more time, the light disappears and all seems to work fine. Then again it arises.I have no noticeable loss in power of Fuel efficiency

Question #9:

Eliminating spark plugs from gasoline engines?

Now I've been thinking lately about the possibilities of eliminating spark plugs from gasoline engines and instead using high compression ratios to ignite the air/gasoline mixture within the engine's cylinders like in the diesel cycle, and instead of injecting the fuel/air mixture at the intake stroke, it would instead be injected into the cylinder just before TDC and ignited by the high compression just like the diesel engines.

Wouldn't this theoretically give better thermal efficiency and lower fuel consumption and at the same time reduce carbon deposits due to unburnt fuel? I know gasoline can ignite without a spark plug, which is why we have high octane fuel to avoid pre-detonation in high compression engines, so why not eliminate the spark plug altogether and instead use compression detonation in gasoline engines?

Again, the fuel/air mixture can be directly injected into the cylinder before TDC like the newer CRDI (common rail diesel injection) engines is what I'm thinking. Mechanically, this is quite in the realm of the diesel combustion cycle, but why can't this be applied to the gasoline engines of today?

Question #10:

Question #11:

environmental engineering problems?

this is the question; please help!

A typical value of capactiy for an electrical power plant is approximately 100 MW. Some people have proposed to replace fossil fue use with use of "renewable" fuel, i.e. biomass. Assume that the average solar radiation reaching the earth is 250 W/m^2 and that 1% of the solar radiation is transformed into biomass. If the conversion efficiency from biomass to electricity is 25%, how much land area must be used to grow corps to provide fuel for the 100 MW power plant? Express your answers in squre meter, acres and square miles

Question #12:

Help with a Math question ?

Cars consume gasoline at certain efficiency; it has been shown that a car will get better fuel economy when driven at 55mph compared to 75mph. Fuel consumption can be increased by 50% when a car is driven at 75mph rather than 55mph. Considering that a car will get 20(mpg) miles per gallon at 75mph, on a trip of 300 miles how much less gas will be used if the car is driven at 55mph.

Question #13:

U-Haul fuel efficiency...?

I'm renting a U-Haul and I'm trying to decide between the 10' and 14' trucks. There is only a difference of $9 to rent the bigger truck but how's the fuel efficiency of the bigger truck? I'm only hauling about 200-300 pounds of stuff, mostly highway miles...

Question #14:

Does changing from shorties to long tube headers decrease fuel efficiency?

I have a 07 Mustang GT.

Question #17:

American Petroleum Institute Chief Economist admits that green energy creates jobs, so why not do it?

In a recent interview, Dr. John Felmy, Chief Economist of the American Petroleum Institute admitted that by shifting capital investment from fossil fuels to rewneable energy and energy efficiency, “I have no doubts you can get a lot more jobs.”

Given that one of the USA's biggest problems right now is unemployment, and that switching to renewable energy and increased efficiency would also have a host of other benefits (decreasing global warming, decreasing ocean acidification, cleaner air and water, decreased reliance on foreign oil [when combined with plug-in hybrids and electric cars], etc. etc.), why shouldn't we make this transition?
Gee David, and you wonder why we call you 'deniers'.
Expeller - I never suggested 'green jobs' would solve our unemployment problem, merely help it.

Your article's second argument seems incredibly stupid. We shouldn't invest in green technologies because they're dominated by foreign companies. Guess why they're dominated by foreign companies? Because foreign economies invest in green technologies!
Thanks for that worthless ad hominem 'answer', Bad Moon. I'm so sorry that I linked to an interview with the API Chief Economist. First jim and now you don't seem to give a crap about the content if it's on a website you don't like. Grow up.
Bad Moon - my question was about the comments of the API Chief Economist. I couldn't give less of a crap if the rest of the article was good or bad. Next time try answering the question.

Question #18:

statistics (please help, so urgent)?

Hi,

I need help urgently. Thanks for answers.

Computers in some vehicles calculate various quantities related to the performance.
One of these is the fuel efficiency, or gas mileage, usually expressed as miles
per gallon (MPG). For one vehicle equipped in this way, the MPG was recorded
each time the gas tank was filled and the computer was then reset.16 Here are the
MPG values for a random sample of 20 of these records:
15.8 13.6 15.6 19.1 22.4 15.6 22.5 17.2 19.4 22.6
19.4 18.0 14.6 18.7 21.0 14.8 22.6 21.5 14.3 20.9

Question 1) The lower bound of the 95% confidence interval. Round your answer to three decimal places.
Questions 2) Do you think that this interval would apply to other similar vehicles? Give
reasons why and why not.

--------------------------------------…

A bank compares two proposals to increase the amount that its credit card
customers charge on their cards. (The bank earns a percentage of the amount
charged, paid by the stores that accept the card.) Proposal A offers to eliminate
the annual fee for customers who charge $2400 or more during the year. Proposal
B offers a small percent of the total amount charged as a cash rebate at the end of
the year. The bank offers each proposal to an SRS of 150 of its existing credit card
customers. At the end of the year, the total amount charged by each customer is
recorded. Here are the summary statistics:
Group n x s
A 150 $1987 $392
B 150 $2056 $413

Question 3) What is the upper bound of the 95% confidence interval for the difference between the two means? Round your answer to one decimal place.

Questions 4) The confidence interval for the difference between the two means contains the value zero. Can you use this fact to test the hypothesis H0: there is no difference between the two means, at the 99% confidence level? Answer: True or False
