Although still incredibly cheap by European standards, American gas prices are reaching a new high in constant, inflation-adjusted dollars. As recently as the latter years of the Clinton administration, gas prices were at a modern low in real dollars -- which probably has a lot to do with all the SUVs and light trucks people are driving today.
